Biography

Was born in 1966 in Nijni Novgorod in Russia. He lives and works in Le Havre since 2006

Oleg Batrakov began to draw while in elementary school. In his native city Nijny Novgorod he attended the After- School Art Classes and was highly encouraged by his teacher to continue his art education. After his four-year studies at the Art School of Nizhny Novgorod he was elected one of the top pupils of the School.

He continued his education at the Academy of Fine Arts in St Petersburg at the restoration faculty where he was taught to master various restoration methods and techniques, the engineering and technology of painting, received extensive training in drawing and painting, and a solid foundation in art history and culture.

Over the course of six years at the Academy of Fine Arts Oleg Batrakov performed the art of copying at the Hermitage State Museum that gave him the opportunity to study the methods and styles of the old masters and to understand their craftsman. After graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts he experimented with different abstract styles and techniques.

In 2006 Oleg Batrakov left Moscow. He started his artistic career in France adopting a realistic style in his painting.

The artworks of Oleg Batrakov reflect his interest in the works of great artists from Rembrandt and Canaletto to Mark Rothko and Anselm Kiefer.

For the last few years he has been travelling regularly to Paris, Venice, Milan, Rome and Naples. This experience has given him the freedom of working on the contemporary cityscapes and created his own vision of urban life.
